New OSCAR Franchise in the Spotlight: Kathryn Forrest

Which area does your OSCAR business cover?

My business covers Exeter City and the surrounding areas, including coastal villages and onto the eastern edge of Dartmoor.

What was your career before OSCAR?

2006-2018 I spent 12 years working for Devon County Council as a Contact Supervisor for Children and Families. 2003-2007 I worked as a Chef at the Officers Mess at the Royal Marine CTCRM Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon. My other jobs involved working with horses - including a Saturday job when I was 15 years old.

What made you choose an OSCAR franchise business?

I have been an OSCAR customer for over 20 years. All 4 of my dogs have been fed on a selection of the dog food. I noticed the Exeter Franchise was for sale near where we live and with my husband we made enquires.

What has been your favourite part of your OSCAR training so far?

Learning about cats. Meeting the OSCAR Team at Head Office.

What pets do you have?

I have an English Springer Spaniel called Bertie. I also have an outdoor pond and an indoor cold water tank with small fish and shrimps.

Which OSCAR food do you feed your pet?

Bertie is on Maize Chicken and Rice.

What is your pet's favourite game to play and why?

Bertie loves "Find the Treat". This is a special game my husband plays with him. This built the bond between Hubby and Bertie, especially when he was operational and away for months on end. Bertie responds well to positive praise and spending time with Hubby. I'm the primary carer to Bertie, but me stepping back has reinforced the bond between Bertie ad Hubby.

Tell us a funny tale about your pet

Bertie wakes up early in the morning and lets me know it's time for breakfast. He carries an item of my clothing and runs away from me down the stairs where he slides on the hall mat and then runs through the sitting room and then into the kitchen where he runs around the table and looks up for his prepared meal. Once he has done this he will ask to go outside and then return to his bed until it's time for a walk. In the afternoon Bertie will stir from his sleep around his tea time and alert me ‘it's time’!!

If you could be any pet, what would you be and why?

If I was a pet I would like to be Bertie – because he is well-loved and looked after!
