New OSCAR Franchise in the Spotlight: Rachel Knight
New OSCAR Franchisee in the Spotlight
Oscar Franchisee: Rachel Knight
Which area does your OSCAR business cover?
East Northampton & Northamptonshire. Market Harborough & surrounding areas.
What was your career before OSCAR?
A 25 year career with Lloyds Bank Plc as a Business Manager for several years, then a commercial financial advisor specialising in agriculture. I took a redundancy package in 2013 and joined Farmers and Mercantile Insurance Brokers as an on-farm insurance broker until December 2015.
What made you decide on a career change to run your own OSCAR Business?
The opportunity to work with a known quality product, in a sector that is of interest to me and the professionalism of the Oscar Team.
What was it that made you choose an OSCAR franchise business?
I have a love of working with animals. I was attracted to the flexibility and challenge of running my own business, focusing on a localised area and interacting with local communities and groups.
What has been your favourite part of your OSCAR training so far?
Simon's session on cats! Whilst I love cats I do not have a great understanding of them as, being a 'doggy' person, I have never owned one!
Also, the other franchisees that were on the course – a really nice team of people with the same goal in mind – we all speak via Facebook at the end of each day to share experiences, trials and tribulations. Great support!
What pets do you have?
Whisper, a Chocolate Labrador, 11 years & Ted, a Cream/Apricot Labradoodle, 9 months.
Which OSCAR food do you feed your pet?
What is your pet's favourite game to play and why?
Whisper loves soft toys to carry around as she is a trained gun dog & Ted loves chasing a tennis ball for miles as he has so much energy to use up.
Tell us a funny tale about your pet
My dear old mongrel 'Monty' who passed away May 2015 aged 17 had a close encounter with a Xmas tree when he was young. Not long after we had rescued him, it was Xmas; tree decorated with lights and fairy in the lounge. We came home after a night out to find Monty attached to the tree, wrapped in lights with his eyes out on springs! Poor old Monty.
If you could be any pet, what would you be and why?
I would be Ted, my Labradoodle pup. He is very cute, a delightful character, mischievous, has lots of cuddles and everyone loves him.
