I’m Poppy. I’m 23 and I am running OSCAR Pet Foods Norwich with the support of my family, and my furry friends – Bella and Ziggy! I’ve lived in Norfolk my whole life and grew up in South Walsham, which is about 8 miles east of the city centre and one of the villages lining the Norfolk Broads.
When I was young, we spent summer weekends travelling to Happisburgh where we had a caravan overlooking the beach. My childhood dog, Scruffy, loved it there and would always have a nose covered in sand!
My family have lived in Eaton and Thorpe: areas either side of the city centre. I’ve spent some time living in the city centre myself but have now moved back to South Walsham; the dogs prefer being in the countryside where we have brilliant nature walks on the doorstep. Not to mention three generations of tortoises – the oldest is thought to be over 80 years old!
My family have used OSCAR products ever since my first dog’s liver started to deteriorate but it honestly never occurred to me that OSCAR was a franchise business. It was such a brilliant surprise when, suddenly, out of the blue, the former Norfolk franchisee explained that he was looking to retire and was trying to find someone to take the business on. This happened during the coronavirus pandemic, just after I found myself unemployed and wondering what to do next!
When I heard I could spend my days meeting dogs whilst running my own business with the help of OSCAR, it was too good an opportunity to miss.
My two dogs, Bella and Ziggy, are a huge part of my life so I know how important your pets are to you too and how much concern you have for their well-being.
OSCAR Pet Foods work tirelessly to pursue the latest nutritional excellence and, proudly and steadfastly, prioritise the importance of making customers’ lives easier, especially with their honest label policy – because honest labelling makes choosing good pet food easy. I’m a firm believer that in order for a career to be fulfilling it must give you a sense of purpose, and to achieve this you must be passionate about what you do and provide a service that makes a difference to people’s lives. This is why I am confident that running an OSCAR pet food business is right for me. I love helping people and I always look forward to meeting new customers and talking to them about their much-loved pets!
With fond memories of the surrounding areas I enjoy being out and about in my delivery van – usually tuned in to Radio 1! An important part of running my OSCAR business involves making sure I minimise my carbon footprint. Local knowledge of roads, combined with a specialist App, helps me to plan my visits with minimum impact to the environment and I always encourage my customers to return their empty packaging to me for recycling – for their convenience and peace of mind.
