Behaviour Benefits
All dogs have an instinctive desire to chew. There are however some things we’d prefer them NOT to chew, like furniture, clothing and relatives; so our Behavioural Expert suggests we offer our dogs a safe chewing ‘outlet’. These chews are also recommended as a calming aid at nights or times when your dog maybe left alone.
Dental Benefits
Not only are the Oscar range of chews and hide intended to amuse and excite your dog but also they’re designed with teeth and gums in mind. After a few minutes chewing; the hide becomes moistened and wraps around the teeth rubbing off plaque and calculi, and we all know that anything designed to remove plaque is a good thing!
Choosing the size and shape of Hide
Different dogs need a different chew. Although even the smallest dog will want to have a go at our range of hide and chews. Fortunately, chews come in every size and shape imaginable. It is important that the chew be large enough and thick enough that your dog cannot easily chew off and swallow a large piece or the whole chew. In the rare occasion that Hide is chewed for more than 7 days should be replaced due to dirt and bacteria build-up.
Which dog should not have chews?
If your dog has gastrointestinal disease or is eating a therapeutic diet, you should seek a veterinarian's approval before feeding chews. Dogs with beef allergies or that consistently swallow bones whole should probably not receive chews.
How often should I feed chews?
Hide is not a food, but a safe, chewable toy. It is high in protein, low in fat, and has fewer calories per gram than a typical dog biscuit. An hour of chewing daily is a good rule for thumb for feeding chews
